Sort lines alphabetically or numerically, in ascending or descending order, taking into account capitalization or ignoring it (click “Show Example”). Just paste lines into the field, select options, and press Submit. Results appear at the bottom of the page.
Starting with this list:
alpha
bravo
Charlie
Doing an Alphabetic sort in Ascending order, the results will be:
Charlie
alpha
bravo
Charlie is first because capitalized letters are sorted before lowercase letters.
However, if you check the Ignore capitalization checkbox, the results will be:
alpha
bravo
Charlie
If you start with this list:
1 cat
2 dogs
10 mice
and do an Alphabetic sort, the results will be:
1 cat
10 mice
2 dogs
This is because, alphabetically, 1 comes before 2. However, if you use the Numeric sort option, the results will be:
1 cat
2 dogs
10 mice
And, of course, if you want the results in reverse order (Z-A or big number to little number), use the Descending option.
“If God give thee not only earth but heaven, that thou shouldest rule over sun, moon, and stars, and have rule over the highest of the sons of men, it would not be enough to satisfy thee, except thou hadst God himself.”
–Jeremiah Burroughs, The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment
